SO, WHERE ARE YOU HEADING?
Have you ever read Alice in Wonderland? It’s a great book with lots of life lessons contained in it. I love the part where Alice asks the Cheshire Cat for some advice.
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” Alice asks. The Cheshire Cat replies by saying, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”
Alice thinks and says, “I don’t much care where.” The Cheshire Cat replies by saying,
“Then it doesn’t much matter which way you go.”
It is so easy to stay in the busyness of our lives be it work or family our life and just lose ourselves. I remember a mentor of mine reminding me that is was so important to step back and take time to look at what I was doing and make sure I was heading in the direction that I wanted rather than get swamped up in other people’s goals.
Unfortunately, many people never ask themselves who/where they want to be, and as a result, they never achieve their personal or professional goals.
So, to summarise, the goal is to construct your life and career in the direction you want it to go before you start pursuing it. Choosing to do so will give you more influence over your life and situations. You will also gain from greater clarity of vision, exposing what you truly desire.
This greater clarity of vision will enable you to be more efficient and successful in your actions, which will help you grasp your mission.
I genuinely believe that by following Stephen Covey’s “begin with the end in mind” philosophy you will set yourself on the path to greater success, and achieving the objectives set out in the goal setting process. It does need to be followed up with disciplined actions; otherwise, it will remain a dream!
So take time out – take out a pen and paper and design your life and what you want – this time of year everyone is thinking so much about next year – why not make it the best one yet…
