In 2019, history and philanthropy converged in a spectacular fashion at The Arches, Dean Clough, Halifax, West Yorkshire, as we embarked on a momentous fundraising event. Our mission was clear: to raise a minimum of £20,000 towards our quarter million pound project in support of the Duke of Wellington’s Regimental Memorial. This event was not just a fundraiser; it was also a celebration of heritage, community, and the unwavering spirit of Yorkshire.
The objective was simple: to create a smart fundraising event with a ‘wow’ factor that engaged as many people as possible in the West Riding. The generosity of our DWR family, local corporates, businesses, and supporters enabled us to achieve this remarkable goal. Through the sale of tables, sponsorships, advertisements, and a captivating auction, we raised funds that would leave an indelible legacy alongside the memorial.
The event itself was nothing short of stunning. With a champagne reception amidst art galleries, followed by a sumptuous three-course dinner accompanied by fine wine, it was an evening that left our 300 guests in awe. The black-tie affair combined elements of history, fine cuisine, and an exciting auction, making it an unforgettable experience.
Our Appeal Committee, including Andrew Meek, Michael Bray, Richard Ward, and others, worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this endeavour. We sent out invitations across the West Riding community, those directly linked to the DWR, generous locals, businesses, dignitaries from West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire, and numerous VIPs.
Our outreach strategy was diverse and inclusive, combining traditional and digital invitations through email, post, and social media to accommodate all potential attendees. The response was overwhelming, reflecting the profound impact of our cause and the generosity of our supporters.
The Duke of Wellington’s Regimental Memorial fundraising event was a real success, not only in terms of the funds raised but for the overall project and getting the community together. We are deeply grateful to everyone who played a part in this extraordinary evening,
