The Swan Champions’ Dinner: A Night of Conservation and Inspiration

15/03/2023

On Wednesday, March 15th, 2023, history, adventure, pioneering spirit, and conservation came together in a spectacular evening that left a lasting impact. The event was held in London to raise funds for the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) projects, with a special focus on ‘The Swan Champions.’

Illegal hunting poses a grave threat to migratory birds, and Dr. Julia Newth stressed the importance of collective action. This extraordinary event, proudly sponsored by ‘Solidarity with Arts and Nature,’ featured the premiere of ‘Flight of the Swans,’ a powerful documentary generously donated by Andrew Fox and SWAN trustees. The film, accompanied by breathtaking paramotor footage from Sacha Dench, shed light on the journey of NW European Bewick’s swans and the urgent need for their protection.

The Swan Champions, a dedicated community, are actively engaged in combating illegal hunting, ensuring a brighter future for these magnificent birds. Major General Patrick Cordingley, our guest speaker, highlighted the significance of collective efforts in preserving our natural heritage.

The Swan Champions’ Dinner was not just an event; it was a celebration of our planet’s beauty and the shared responsibility to protect it. It was a night of inspiration, where history met conservation, and adventure met passion. As we move forward, we are reminded that together, we can make a difference in safeguarding the incredible biodiversity that surrounds us.
