Dr Louise Newson

Physician, women’s hormone specialist and member of the UK Government’s Menopause Taskforce

Dr Louise Newson is a physician, women’s hormone specialist, and member of the UK Government’s Menopause Taskforce. She is an award-winning doctor, educator, and author, dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of perimenopause and menopause. Described as the “medic who kickstarted the menopause revolution”, she has empowered a generation of women to have greater understanding, choice, and control over their treatment, bodies, and minds.

Medical Career
Dr Louise studied Medicine and Pathology at The University of Manchester before pursuing a career in hospital medicine. She later specialised in General Practice and medical writing. She is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (1998), a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners (2016), a Visiting Fellow at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge University, and holds an Honorary Doctorate in Health from Bradford University.

Founder, Podcast Host, and Bestselling Author
Dr Louise is the founder of the free, award-winning balance menopause support app, which has been downloaded over one million times, and the balance-menopause website. She hosts the weekly Dr Louise Newson podcast, ranked as the No.1 medical podcast in the UK. She is also a Sunday Times bestselling author and has written several books.

Newson Health, Research, and Education
In 2018, Dr Louise founded Newson Health in response to the challenges many women face in accessing perimenopause and menopause treatment. Newson Health clinicians provide individualised, holistic consultations to women across the UK. Recognising that menopause and hormone health are under-researched and underfunded, a portion of Newson Health’s profits funds essential research and education, as well as supporting the balance app and a range of free global resources. Neither Newson Health nor Dr Louise Newson undertake any paid work with pharmaceutical companies or organisations involved in “menowashing”.

Academic, Outreach, and Media Work
Dr Louise has developed a menopause education programme for healthcare professionals, downloaded by over 33,000 clinicians worldwide. She has contributed to numerous academic papers and resources, including the Royal College of General Practitioners’ Essential Knowledge Updates and E-learning for Healthcare modules. Her academic collaborations include Kings College London, Cambridge, Liverpool John Moores, Liverpool, Cardiff, and Warwick Universities.

She also works with various organisations to widen access to menopause and hormone healthcare, including in the workplace, and collaborates with charities and professional bodies to raise awareness of the needs of perimenopausal and menopausal women. Dr Louise regularly appears in the media as an expert commentator on women’s hormone health.
